Thanks for the info, Plumpossum!

Plumpossum

The lady third from the bottom of the picture is holding something that looks a lot like a ration book. They were used during WW2. Google it, you youngsters!

PutterDutt

That's what the e mail said, Heidi.

Surreal_Heidi

Are you sure that was taken in '55? The sign on the counter says to save waste fats for explosives. That was done during WW2.

PutterDutt

I saw that too. I like dresses, but for usual days, I prefer jeans.

cbmuller

Notice the housewife dresses. They always looked the same.

PutterDutt

Pat, NOW? Really? Right down to the prices??? (okay, I like to fantasize!)

patsquire

The meat counter in Jacobs Market, Appleton, Wisconsin looks just like this now in 2015!

PutterDutt

Thanks for the visit and comment, FatCatLady! I'm sure you're right, but it's just sad to realize that the last time I could have afforded to eat my fill of steak I was 1 year old!

FatCatLady

PutterDutt, my mother fed 11 people on $25 a week. It was a different time.

PutterDutt

Look at those PRICES!!!
