Why are you reporting this puzzle?

I leave for a week in New Orleans tomorrow afternoon 1/22. As I've never been there, does anyone have any special places to check out when I'm there?

It might hardly be noticed in the French Quarter from what I understand, Florrie but it would be a real hoot! Thanks for the comment and video!

warbler

Thanks Floyd!

You did add a couple of new eateries to my list vfdl, thanks for the comment. I'm looking forward to the butterfly house as part of the aquarium trip and hoping for some photos there as well.

Warbler, I know you'll enjoy N'Oleans, it's a great place for history and great food! Looks like I'm late with the info, you've got lots of good hints already. I see Metairie mentioned, there's a place called The Galley Seafood Restaurant @ 2535 Metairie Road, we enjoyed on our last trip. Of course Café Du Monde is a must, have a beignet for me. And Ruth Chris (steak house) is fabulous. Dooky Chase is a favorite also. The Riverwalk is nice, I think they were starting a remodel when I was there a couple of years ago. You might also enjoy the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. New Orleans truly is one of my most favorite places to visit. ENJOY!!!! :~O

Dave have a GREAT trip and ENJOY!!

warbler

We'll be going over the causway lalibra, so we'll be right through Metairie at least a couple of times.

warbler

Your making me salivate, lajuin!!!

I hear there are streets of cool old houses, Janet, you may get to see lots of them. This sure is a nice one from the internet.

I will Patti and have a little Creole, too. Here comes the calories!

Its all good Laura, I knew about Mimi but never knew she was from there. Thanks.

Thanks for the notes lalibra. I will go to see Metairie on google soon.

warbler

I might fit you in the overhead of the plane Ellen but its a 5 hour flight. Maybe you will wait for the photos! Thanks for the comment!

OOPS! Jigidi wouldn't let me enter the link "nola.com" in the form of a web address.

So you're comin' here to "Mardi Gras"? (In the local vernacular "to Mardi Gras" means to party heartily!) I live in metropolitan Nawlins, dawlin' ... a suburb called Metairie. Check out ; it's chock full of info, links and tons of stuff. Be sure to pack for the 4 seasons: cold and damp, coolish, hot and humid and all of the above with rain.
I've just now applied to join the Jigidi Group at Yahoo and if you'd like a native's assistance, I'd be more than happy to help. As soon as they let me in, I'll post my contact info if'n you're interested.
See ya on the parade route! ---Lise---

laurajane

Mimi knows. Mimi is from there, but she is not on Jigidi becasue she has been sick. So, I was no help at all. The only place I can think of is Cafe du Monde.

PLG1958

Have a wonderful time, and be sure to hear a little dixieland jazz while you're there! :)

Shouda mentioned the obvious: Marseli family, Harry Connick, Jr. Dr. John (lotsa fun - saw him here).

PutterDutt

Well, for ONCE I got advance warning that you were fixing to "poof" again. THen you, Warbs. Sounds ike smllpkg and pumpkinhead have good experience to share tips with you. I've never been there, but have heard that the seafood is incredible and safe to enjoy.....to excess! (Take me with you, please???)

warbler

Hopefully I'll have a few photos for you Lorna for your interest!

Thanks for the great info smllpkg-I'll let you know what of those thing we get to.

I'll tip a glass for you ironroad!

Thanks Toto!

Great! Thanks lajuin!

lajuin

Yes!! Have a great time. You got good suggestions. For music maybe also Stanton Moore and Alan Toussaint. Irma Thomas hangs around there, too.

Toto

Have fun!

Have a wonderful time, enjoy the seafood! And don't forget the po'boys.

pumpkinhead

You used my "travel" email that I rarely check. :( Sorry!!! Have sent you emails from both-the gmail one has some Biloxi and Mobile suggestions.

pumpkinhead

Great suggestions from folks, Warb! Here's my list (sent links, etc to you in email).
Eating: Muriel's on Jackson Square, The Irish House on St. Charles (Garden District), Café du Monde, the Gumbo Shop, Emeril's Delmonico.
Check out the French Market, the Garden District (last year they were doing some trolley track work, so we had to switch from trolley to bus to trolley to bus-----thankfully, folks were really helpful).
People watching, architecture, and music---you can't go wrong! Enjoy!!!

ladywil2

What a great house. Have a good time in New Orleans

smllpkg101

You must have some coffee and beignets at the Café du Monde. It's right across from Jackson Square. If you go thru the Garden District, you can take the Streetcar Named Desire. It's also where Commander's Palace is located, home of the original Bananas Foster. You have to walk Bourbon Street and maybe stop at Pat O'Brien's for a Hurricane or at Preservation Hall for some New Orleans jazz. We also ate at Emiril's NOLA, Brennan's and the Court of Two Sisters. Take a carriage ride and see one of the above ground cemeteries. Also did a dinner cruise on the steamboat Natchez. If you have time, a bus tour up to Oak Alley plantation is worth the trip. You'll have a great time, whatever you choose to do!

goingsilver

I know nothing so whatever you show of New Orleans will be interesting I am sure!

warbler

I emailed Suzy but haven't heard back, Faye. All this time and I didn't realize Mimi was from there!

Thanks Lyndee.

lyndee

We enjoyed taking the trolley through the Garden District. Get to see some beautiful older homes.
Jackson Square is interesting too.

gemstone

Oh, mipahollo1 (Mimi) lives in New Orleans.

Check with Suzy: pumpkinhead

She posted pictures from her trip last spring.

Have a great time! Wish I was there. ;DDD
