It is a nice town, Cathy. The murals depict the early days in Granby. I can't remember if I posted a picture of them or not. Will check.
And Toto, Lead was mined here about 1850. Granby is referred to as the First Mining Town in the Southwest. It swelled up to over 10,000 people at the heighth of the rush. Now a little over 2000 people live here. Then they discovered that there was zinc in the tailings. Much bigger strikes were made in the Joplin area and the biggest was in Picher, OKLA.
What was mined here? Coal, lead?
Nice town! The two murals look interesting. Perhaps someone should open a pub style restaurant where the bar used to be.
Love it thanks for a great set today ....
The massive building in the center is the armory. Community functions are held there as well as voting. The two murals in the picture are on the side of the Granby Miners Museum. Just above the stop sign was where Granby's only bar was located before it burned to the ground.
More exciting things about Granby will come in the future.
