Hi canoekaw.
As promised a photo of teenage coots.
Here are two of them preening "at home " with mum. The other one was practising its diving technique with dad, as you can see in the next puzzle☺

Geen idee eigenlijk. Misschien groeien ze zo hard in een korte tijd dat je het verschil niet kunt ziet???? ☺♥

'k Zou niet willen beweren dat je zit te liegen Impie☺♥ Er gebeuren rare dingen in de vogelwereld. Het heeft vaak te maken met een stresssituatie, doordat de ouders het niet aan kunnen (zelf nog te jong??) of dat er niet genoeg voedsel voor handen is. Maar ook al gebeurt het regelmatig dat de ouders de jongen wegsturen of dood maken, dat verklaart dan nog steeds niet hoe het komt dat ik heel vaak een ouderstel zie met halfwas jongen zoals deze (jongen die ze blijkbaar netjes grootgebracht hebben) maar eigenlijk nooit ouders met jongen die een aantal weken oud zijn. Ik bedoel : de jongen op de foto hebben toch dat tussenstadium doorlopen, net als al die andere halfwasjongen die ik zie, maar waarom zìe ik dan nooit dat tussenstadium??? Raadselachtig op z'n minst☺♥

Schutkleur...ik denk dat dat te maken heeft met het feit dat ze hun jongen op een gegeven moment 'verjagen' (soms zelfs doden!) om eventueel weer een nieuw nest te starten. Althans dat heb ik van horen vertellen, dus als ik zit te liegen, dan lieg ik in commissie!☺♥

They do canoekaw. But now you have me thinking about what they look like in between those two stages. And I'm beginning to wonder if I ever saw that stage. I often see the tiny ones of a few days old, and I often see this juvenile stage, but I can't remember anything else. Now that's VERY annoying! ☺

Much better looking and they do look like adolescents. The chicks looked like tiny vultures with the red heads and gold feathers around their necks. Thank you very much, I am relieved they improved with time.
