He looks a lot like our Australian Willie Wagtail, same habits too, we have a pair that nest in our shed, when they are not nesting they insist on messing up my verandah. Thanks potatomum.
It's a little hard to tell from this picture, but his beak is much longer, thinner and sharper than a junco's. He's also a bit smaller. He's a member of the flycatcher family and is very agile - lots of swooping and turning as he pursues little insects. And he's never on the ground. We have California juncos, and they seem to be on the ground more often than not.
