Well, I have always wanted to go to Banff and Lake Louise. The only Canadian cities I've spent time in are Victoria and Quebec. After Quebec, we drove THROUGH Toronto. What did I know.....I was around 14 at the time!

*sigh* Mind you, we do have lots of beautiful sights around my lovely province, too. I'll enjoy these until I can get out your way.

Michelle - it is even more gorgeous than the photo! If you like to hike, it's a can't-miss-it destination!

Wow! Stunningly beautiful. One of these days, I hope that I'll get out there to see it in person. Thanks for both the picture and description, Jan.

Hester and Dagmar. It is a beautiful drive, indeed. And Vista House has one of the best views. But, there are rocky crags galore and such a variety of trees! Yes, I am so lucky to have this so close! And it is gorgeous in every season of the year!!

Ardy and Hanne - It is truly a treasure and is about 20 miles away. I can't tell you how many times I have hiked this area and how beautiful the waterfalls and wildflowers are!

Gorgeous color. Reminds me of New England in the early fall. Thanks for sharing the picture and the information.

The Columbia River marks the state lines between Oregon and Washington.
The Gorge transitions between temperate rainforest to dry grasslands in only 80 miles, creating a dramatic change in scenery while driving down I-884.
Atmospheric pressure differentials east and west of the Cascades create a wind tunnel effect in the deep cut of the gorge, generating winds that make it a popular windsurfing and kitesurfing location.
The Gorge is also a popular destination for hiking, biking, fishing, and watersports.
The area is known for its high concentration of waterfalls, with over 90 on the Oregon side of the Gorge alone, including the notable 620-foot high Multnomah Falls.

I love this area!!
