I'm glad you decided to give it a try. I want to, also. I don't think the kids would be squeamish if they study about the benefits of bats. Bats have been given a bad reputation by Halloween, etc. They're actually kinda cute!! And the bats won't do anything that would get their attention. In the evening, they can look just like birds -- only with a different wing-beat pattern. Thank you for your feedback, Beachousenana. Good luck.

after checking out the website, and reading the comments from the two of you...think i'll
look into putting a bat house up in one of our trees. should be interesting...if i can get the
kids to not be too squeamish about them being out there. :( :))

I can't say I've seen them here in Ashland -- and we DO have a lot of mosquitoes! I wonder if I build it, will they come??

We have many bats around here-and rarely have a mosquito! :)
I love watching them flit about in the dusk of the day.

Hey, Suzy, that's great information!!! Thanks so much! I remember many years ago, my son and I camped at Mammoth Caves National Park and I took note of the fact that we weren't bothered by mosquitoes. I then realized that the myriad of bats that came out of the caves at night kept the mosquito population under control.

Bats are so beneficial to us.
Here's a great site about bat conservation.
