Here's Your Sign

Someone in the Dutch province of Utrecht sent a postcard to someone in the -also Dutch- province of Zeeland. The post person may have had a sense of humor, because he (or she) sent the postcard to a town of slightly similar name in New Zealand. By some ridiculous coincidence the person who received the postcard in New Zealand was Dutch. He somehow, through help of family in Holland (this was before internet, even before affordable phone calls) found the correct address and sent the postcard, with a letter explaining its journey, to the intended recipients. A penpal friendship started. Visits to New Zealand that otherwise would never have happened. This story is actually true.

When a person sees his neighbor loading a moving truck with his possessions , he or she might say 'Your moving'. You could read this two ways. First if the person moving had been a good neighbor, 'I'm sorry to see your going away. I'll miss having you as my neighbor.' or if the inverse 'Thank goodness. It'll improve the neighborhood'. In both cases it's more a matter of not knowing what to say than stupidity. There is enough of that in the world without our judging too harshly.

LOL, reminds me of when I phoned the credit card company because I had received a letter from them which ticked me off for not reporting as missing a new card which I had never actually received. But the stupid girl asked if they had my correct postal address.... (Turns out they had sent my new card along with someone else's and they had returned it to the credit card company)

They're all around us! A few weeks ago I didn't get any mail 2 days in a row. On the third day I got an email from OSU asking for an address update as a piece of mail they sent to me was returned to them marked undeliverable. I went to the P.O. to find out why my mail was not being delivered and instead returned to sender. The supervisor for my area asked me to show him the piece of mail!

It's all symptoms of "foot in mouth" disease isn't it? Reminds me of the story of a man whose luggage didn't arrive on the plane with him. When he went to report it the lady there assured him they would reunite him with his bag and then asked, "Has your plane arrived, yet?" Thanks, Pat. Fun. Hugs.
