I love that old Spiral Highway for the motorcycle, especially early on a Sunday morning when there is no traffic. Heading down, right near the top there is a very steeply banked corner you can lean the bike into, then tilt your head a bit to the right (down) and be nearly 90 degrees to the far hillside. Nicely disorienting. And yes, you are also right about the Whitebird grade. Great fun and great memories.
Certainly reminds me of the famous old Lewiston Idaho highway grade that descended in to the Clearwater/Snake River valley, if I remember right it was 13 miles long with 33 switch-backs, & yes, you could wear the foot pegs off of a motorcycle on 1 trip up & back down. The White Bird hi-way grade south of Lewiston on Hi-way 95 is also another one that scares some people to death just looking at it. Very rugged country.
You're certainly welcome. It is a terrific road for a motorcycle, and lot's of fun, but the rocky hillsides do shed quite a bit of sharp gravel, and summertime temps can hit well over 100F. Well worth the effort though.
a real challenge and a fun puzzle...must be a hoot to drive...thanks!
