Thanks Robbie, your tale of pig keeping is great, and very informative. Clearly pigs have been given a bad press as a result of poor treatment by humans... poor porkies! I'd never heard of head cheese before today, but knowing me I'd not be brave enough to try it out!! I'm laughing about the pig's ear LOL!!

Hi Mandy, this is hilarious, thanks for the fun puzzle. My uncle reared pigs for many years and my dad reared 4 of them once. None of them ever smelt bad, my uncle said if you kept their area clean and fed them good food they would keep themselves clean. I remember him saying if you put any animal or human in mud and feed them swill, they will wallow in mud and smell bad!! I think he was right, we fed our pigs leftovers but they were fresh from the table give or take an evening or so and their pens were cleaned out on a regular basis. Oh and dad and I love pickled pigs feet and my granny made head cheese years ago which we all liked!! I also chewed on a pig's ear one night after our pig roast.........I don't think I had a girl friend for some time after............now I see why not roerick!!!!!!!!

Thanks Rosie - that's really useful to know... I wonder if pigs would still pass awful gas if they were fed high quality food. It's funny you mention the ears... I once used sows' ears to make some kaleidoscope images which turned out well... I may post them one day... as silk purses!!! I don't think I would be brave enough to eat pigs head or ears, although I have eaten knuckle of pork!!

Thanks, Mandy, for another enjoyable "Who knew" puzzle. Had friends who were pig farmers and the reason the pigs smell so badly is what they are given to eat--all of the scraps and peelings and things we throw away. They will eat anything kinda like goats and they pass awful gas. The piglets are hilarious and really fun to play with but the old sows are usually nasty and so were the males. Sure do love my pork--all of it except head cheese and pickled pigs feet and pigs ears---some people let their dogs chew on dried pigs ears and then their dogs have really bad breath--yuck. Rosie

That is interesting, because for most people, pigs are only suppliers of bacon and ham. For this they are exploited. Maybe this day makes us think, that they are also living beings. Nice pics!

I love pigs Mandy. Years ago knew someone who had a minature pot bellied pig as a house pet. Very clean, trained to go outside, no smell, and smarter than a dog. He was a great pet. I see my little friend with the red boots, this is his second appearance I believe. Thanks for this fun puzzle. I really enjoyed it.

Mandy, I must send Josie over here today. She always has a pig in her collage on Josiescorner puzzles. I'm a vegetarian so wouldn't be eating them. But if they are as clean as Budgy says, why do they smell so bad? Thanks for another most interesting celebration.

I don't eat pork, No I'm not jewish, I've seen such a lot of cruelty towards this CLEAN animal, it's a
pity human beings don't live as cleanly. The pigs keep their living quarters clean but people even though they have houses supplied and a cheque from the government every 2 weeks live in unbelievable filth.

Hmmm, never thought about celebrating pigs, Mandy. Another weird and wacky holiday. LOL
You must do a lot of research and hunting around for just the right images to use. Love the ones you've chosen to represent this celebration. :-)

I think the poor pigs would love to stay anonymous and being less honoured LOL. But our tables would seem much emptier without them. :)))
