Narcissus singing to his love

Last June this little guy spent a whole afternoon flying repeatedly against the window pane. It is not a big window. The next day he was back doing it again. Afraid he’d hurt himself, I interrupted the bird’s-eye view by hanging a length of scrunched-up tape down the outside of the glass. Instead of being discouraged, the bird perched in comfort on the tape and sang. Every little while he’d try again to fly at the bird in the window. Finally, I hung a white plastic bag across the inside of the glass so there would be no reflection. It worked. He never came back, the poor boy...better a broken heart than a bruised brain.
