World Toilet Day is a UN recognized event, observed annually on 19 November. This international day of action aims to break the taboo around toilets and draw attention to the global sanitation challenge.

Can you imagine not having a toilet? Can you imagine not having privacy when you need to relieve yourself? Although unthinkable for those living in wealthy parts of the world, this is a harsh reality for many – in fact, one in three people on this globe does not have access to a toilet!

Illnesses that are a direct result of bad sanitation affect the quality of life of millions of people around the world, especially children. Diarrhoeal diseases are the second most common cause of death of young children in developing countries, killing more than HIV/AIDS, malaria and measles combined, and resulting in 1 death every 20 seconds.

World Toilet Day has a serious purpose: it aims to stimulate dialogue about sanitation and break the taboo that still surrounds this issue. World Toilet Day’s vision is to grow as a collective campaign uniting on 19 November everybody who is passionate about toilets to ensure that access to proper sanitation, which has been declared a human right, becomes a reality for all.

While a vast majority of the world's population has access to mobile phones, one third of humanity do not have access to proper sanitation, including toilets or latrines, with dramatic consequences on human health, dignity and security, the environment, and social and economic development.

World Toilet Day aims to change both behaviour and policy on issues ranging from enhancing water management to ending open-air defecation (which 1.1 billion people practice worldwide).

No other invention has saved more lives than a toilet. http://toiletday.org/

It's nice to know you are enjoying your family Magda, and that you have your visit to look forward to as well. I can't put my finger on what has changed that has stopped me from creating, but I'm hoping it won't last much longer!! Jigidi is always here when needed. It's not just you and I who are time-poor - Willy has recently taken a break, and PJ is struggling to make time for her puzzles too!!! I look forward to catching up with you again soon :~)))

ythat you are so much short of time, our loss! But I can very well understand, as I am in the same situation. But I am happy to be with my family, enjoying my grandchildren. And Dec. Jan i will go visit my other 2 daughters in Lahore, and will have even less time. I miss jigidi as well, but one cannt have everything! Looking forward to see you again!

Sorry Magda, I've just not had time to make any other puzzles recently, so I've been filling in the gaps with my WK puzzles - I do intend to post other puzzles again eventually, and I might even try to make some this weekend, as I have the weekend off - I lost my creativity for a while, but I've had a few ideas over the past few days, so Who Knows!! I might soon be creating again :~)))

Thanks Jo, Barb, Heidi, whatnauts, Pat and Edie - I'm not sure how I missed seeing your earlier comments, but they are all most welcome and appreciated.

Heidi - I wish I'd thought of using that one!!! LOL

Hard to imagine nowadays not having an indoor toilet. Mind you I grew up in a house with 7 people and 1 bathroom. You learned to be quick with whatever you were in there for :-))) Thanks Mandy

Surreal_Heidi

Awwwww... you missed a picture of people entering the Ministry Of Magic (Harry Potter movies) by being flushed down the loo.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Mandy. Some rather horrifying statistics. We take so much for granted.

Thanks John - that's good to know!!!

Thanks Ardy - I was also shocked to find out that more people have access to a mobile phone than a toilet!

How exciting Josie - I love it when my choice of special day is also mentioned on the radio or TV!! I thought Mandy was very brave to pose for such an important message!! :~)

From your link I discovered that this is the first World Toilet Day. It's quite shocking to think that more people have cell phones than have toilets. I've heard of cats being taught to use the toilet but haven't heard of them sitting IN them. Thanks, Mandy. A serious problem that I've never thought about before.
