Thanks Patti Cathy Linda Graciela and Suzy. You are so right girls. Windmills are great to see, And the best moment is when they work. Mostly that will be in weekends, because the volunteers have their regular jobs. But there are also mills that still work all day. The miller lives in, or close next to the mill. I'm glad we still have so many of them. ☺
♥♥♥
Linda I will tell him.

There is something timeless about the beauty of windmills. Thank you, Ank. Love this.

Graciela

Great one Ank! every time I see a windmill reminds my of "Don Quixote"

Ank, please thank Petra's partner from me for his voluntary commitment to maintaining such a wonderful Dutch tradition and tell him what awful things are taking place not far away on the other side of the North Sea. Yes, the outside of the windmills is usually preserved there, but sadly the milling tradition has been irrevocably lost.
Thanks again for this photographic reminder of NL's legendary windmill tradition.

cevas

I love it too!!!

PLG1958

I love it!

puzzeljac

Thanks Linda. Pity that they took all out. But I hope at least that the outside did not change. Petra's partner is a volunteer miller too. (Micky's groomer)

Thanks, Ank, for your information. It's good to know that NL is doing so much to preserve its windmill tradition. Many countries try to maintain and restore their windmills, but I doubt that many also provide training for aspirant millers to keep the tradition alive. Sadly, most remaining windmills in the East Anglia region of the UK (directly across the North Sea from you and with a very similarly flat and windy landscape with lots of windmills - where I was born and spent my childhood) have been gutted (i.e. had their interiors and all their internal mechanisms removed) and been converted into privately-owned holiday homes. I prefer the Dutch policy. And it's good to learn that windmills can attract the support of so many volunteer workers in NL - if I lived there, I'd volunteer too (but probably only to serve the refreshments for those doing the really hard work!).
Many thanks, Ank, for this photo and your information.

Thanks Tek Janinka Patty and Linda. The Netherlands has an association for windmills, they provide for the maintenance, restoration and training millers. It is a club with a lot of volunteers. ☺ Everyone loves windmills. ☺

linda1802

Wow, this one's a real beauty, and looks (like most of NL) so well kept.
Lovely photo, especially the light. Thank you Ank.
