Thanks, Oddio and PKH. I do appreciate the little tree's bounty, but dealing with it is quite a chore! And "free fruit" is a magnet for all manner of wildlife - - including the unwelcome kind (mostly rodents).
Gemmy, although the tree bears a lot of fruit, it only ripens in small quantities at a time - - maybe a pound or so a day - - so I doubt that the fruit pickers you mention would be much interested. Furthermore, figs are very perishable, and extremely fragile - - they do not travel well, and should be eaten or preserved within a short time of picking.
This is a very young fig tree - - maybe 3 or 4 years old. Fig trees can grow to a pretty large size. Wikipedia has an interesting article about fig trees: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_fig
Thanks for posting your fig tree Plumpossum. I expected a taller tree than this. I thought the fig grove I saw from the car while passing by somewhere were larger trees. Maybe I'm mistaken and they weren't fig.
No, BK. I was just expressing frustration at having to deal with more figs than I know what to do with. It wouldn't be a problem if I didn't mind letting a lot of them go to waste, but it really pains me to waste anything!
