I don't think either plane was called a "peashooter". That nickname is most usually applied to a Boeing P-26, because the sight in front of the cockpit looked like a tin peashooter. Possibly other Army P-for-Pursuit planes might have been called by that name. But these Grummans worked for the Navy and were designated F3F and F4F. No "P" in their designations.
