Thanks pdev. I do lots your puzzles, they are fun. I don't always make the leader board though, the fun is in the doing, but it is icing on the cake to make the board.
Oh, BarbH, if you ever need a place to put your soapbox while you speak, come to one of my puzzles and set it up there, any time you wish! Your words were wonderful and wise--thank you!!!
Thank you Barb for the info . . . I understand that the 'relationship' was speculation and rumour. The allegation also appeared in an unauthorised biography of Olivier. The allegations of an affair with Kaye have been denied by both families. Olivier's official biography alludes to an affair with another actor which has not been denied by the family leading to speculation that he was bi-sexual and I think those may have been the so-called "demons".
Either way I agree with Barb that it does not affect me and therefore I don't feel it matters what a person's sexuality is. I am just pleased that we now live in a society where most of the taboos regarding sexuality and other prejudices are disappearing . . . live and let live!
Thanks for the use of the soap box Barb . . . I'll pop it in the corner for now . . . lol
If you look at Danny Kaye's bio on Wikipedia, it seems that there is still some denial present from his side, but that doesn't seem to have squelched the speculation. Olivier's widow also denies it, but does admit that he wrested with "demons". It is amazing to me that so many people seem to claim someone elses's sexuality as a matter of concern and importance to them. How does someone else's sexual orientation make a difference in my life? How would gay marriage ruin my marriage? I just don't understand the opposition's reasoning here. Probably because, as a Philosopher, I have been trained in the art of logic and rational argumentation and there is no rationality here. Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now.
Back in those days it would ruin a career. Unfortunately, it had to be kept on the down low. Not so much today as people are more accepting; and the way I look at it is, live and let live.
sara...It was kept very quiet during Olivier's lifetime but did emerge around the time his biography was published. Danny Kaye was still alive at the time but suffered from dementia and relied heavily on his daughter, Deanna.
Faye, Danny Kaye and Sir Laurence Olivier were lovers? I was born in the early '60s...yet one would think I might have heard about it sometime in the last 40 yrs. One never knows about people but that's what makes people so interesting! I love books about celebrities who have led exciting over-the-top lives! Judy Garland, Liz Taylor, and ironically Vivien Leigh (read that one years ago) just to name a few. Rambled on long enough....back to the game!
BTW Bogart died in '56.
Not just a puzzle, but a game as well. See if you can guess who the celebrity is. The face has been distorted and will be made clearer until a correct guess is given or I run out of photos . . . in which case I WIN!!! LOL
I hope to update the pictures at around 1pm and 10pm each day (UK time) and I will pop in from time to time to check on progress . . . have fun
Please feel free to make as many guesses as you want but if you are making multiple guesses at the same time could you please combine them to a single comment. This makes it easier for others to read through them and, more importantly, makes it easier for me to compile the incorrect list . . . thank you . . . :D)
