For those of you who haven't heard the name I think you would be very surprised if you google her. She has won many awards including at least one Oscar and has had numerous nominations for songs that I am sure you will have heard of. Tigress quite rightly points out that she was once married to Burt Bacharach and they wrote many songs together. I if memory serves me correct she also had a relationship with Marvin Hamlisch both professionally and personally.
As for THAT song . . . when it was released I found it the most annoying thing around only later to be eclipsed by "The Birdie Song" . . . strange how time changes your opinions as I quite like it these days. I do still have some taste though as I still hate "The Birdie Song" with a vengeance . . . :D)
I didn't know either the name...or the face...or even the voice, thank goodness. I'm with you there, Antagony....you might have been exonerated of roomateicide!
@bahands: As I said to Froggy in the solution thread, I doubt that I would have got it without the 'collaborations' clue. After that it was just a matter of racking my brain for singer/songwriter/collaborations until it came to me.
I didn't mind the lyrics or sentiments of the song, but her voice really grated on me. It was exacerbated by the fact my girlfriend at the time loved it and insisted on playing it repeatedly! Oh and no, we weren't co-habiting then, so it wasn't her trying to tell me something. ;^)
