In Old Town Manassas, the Farmers Market usually has about 30-40 huge canopy covered stalls selling produce, Organic meats and eggs, breakfast rolls and donuts, flowers, a few nice quality crafts, wine, and live music too. Prices are pretty decent too.

I talked to one guy, actually couple, who had a big stand and they said reminents went to soup kitchens and homeless shelter places. So there you go, Plum!

I always wonder what happens to the produce that doesn't get sold. The thought of it going to waste is almost more than I can bear; say it ain't so!

warbler

They were working it all the time I was there, Patti, removing bruised things, ect.

Thats part of the win win situation of these markets Kat, your right, better taste and helping locally so they can come back next week.

THis is healthy shopping, Cathy, good for the soul, too! Thanks.

I imagine they are all long gone Lorna but there might be something else by tonight!

Robyn the peaches I got are for your peach cake-I'm making it again this week! And will hopefully have a photo!

I wish I could send you one, Barb! Thanks!

Even with recycling, I prefer to take my own cloth bags, too, Florrie.

There's a market like this twice every week in Reutlingen. The vendors only sell to customers with their own bags or baskets. It's good to buy produce without all of the environmentally unfriendly packaging.

All of these look great but nothing is as great as those cinnamon rolls with cream cheese topping.....yum!

robryan

It all looks fabulous Dave - beefsteak tomatoes sound good, and peaches, and.........sigh!!

goingsilver

Fabulous looking produce but right now I'd prefer one of those cinnamon buns you tormented us with!

This is a wonderful picture! I find myself going immediately into 'shopping' mode. : )))

These Farmers Markets are absolutely wonderful, Warbs. It's no contest in taste from these local growers in contrast with the produce that is sold in most supermarkets -- local growers win hands down, IMO, and I would far rather see my money go to small farmers than to the big corporate chains/growers. Positively mouth-watering puzzle -- thank you! :)

Beautiful produce!!!

Me too Lyndee. I used to avoid them, thinking they were too expensive but I found I was wrong and missing out!

I can tell you have been to them chookie! That is the blend of things there. I had a peach this afternoon and some watermellon tonight and both were REAL!!!

Oh man, do I LOVE Farmers Markets!! I normally come home with the boot full of fresh fruit and vegies, not to mention flowers and wonderful looking home-made cakes and biscuits.

lyndee

My kind of place!!!

warbler

Right Suzy, lots of choices and all very fresh!

I hadn't thought of it Beekay but there are alot of them here. Charlottesville has a large one, too.

They were snooker. I was surprised and should of asked if they were some special variety or something.

snooker

Excellent selection. Those look like giant carrots.

Beekay

This is much larger than our markets and prices here are very high. Perhaps because there is less competition.

pumpkinhead

The best time of year to eat your fresh fruits and veggies!

warbler

Yes Ginger and smllpkg I got sweet corn, local peaches, local monster beefsteak tomatoes, and a huge seedless watermelon, which we ate paet of tonight-it was so sweet!!!

THis is one of many venders, Janet, you'll see more soon! Thanks!
