A definite beauty! Wow!
Yes, amazing, roseheather, I thought it was a very small bird, too!
I was surprised that they are so big. The picture for your puzzle looked like a little bird. Instead it was at least 15" long, and I am not remembering the exact length at the moment. Amazing.
Thank you, roseheather!! Very interesting. I've never seen one and I think they are so pretty!
I went to another site and found that rollers can come in different color combinations: http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/racket-tailed-roller
See: http://www.zoochat.com/558/blue-bellied-roller-racket-tailed-roller-166960/ - may have to scroll down in this link
I did a search for the bird that laurajane mentioned. Bingo! ; )
Thanks for your comments, everyone! Jack, it IS a beautiful name!! LOL!!
let's call him jack, that's a beautiful name
Looks like it may be a Blue Racket-Tailed Roller Bird. It's found in Africa.
Stunning little bird.
Lovley photo, thanks for the post.
It's perdy whatever it is!
sve 1 - It looks like that bird has a thicker bill: see - http://www.finchinfo.com/birds/finches/species/cordon_bleu_waxbill.php Also it doesn't have the dark eye streak, or the bit of white above the black at the eye.
I did a websearch and here's what I found....Blue-breasted Cordonbleu Uraeginthus angolensis. Hope that helps (and is accurate). It is a beautiful bird
Where was this bird? Different continents have different birds. It appears to have a cross bill and appears to be small.
ijsvogel - icebird?
no but I would love to find out.
