The Tures Castle is a medieval castle located in Campo Tures , in the Val di Tures , a perpendicular of the Puster Valley .
The castle stands on a promontory that forms a natural closure, called Klapf, which gives geographically begin the Ahrntal and the town Drittelsand, located north of the castle, still belongs to the municipality of Campo Tures.
In Tures Castle was filmed 'The most beautiful night of my life', of Ettore Scola and Alberto Sordi , based on the story 'The creams. A story even possible' by Friedrich Dürrenmatt .
The castle is also one of the locations of the Italian television series " Wings of Life "directed by Stefano Reali , who stars Virna Lisi and Sabrina Ferilli .
Originally owned by the Lords of Taufers, the noble and dynasties, and the church bishop of Brixen, it was converted into a residential house in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
After a period of decline, the castle has been put back on track after World War II by the Benedictine Hieronymus Gassner, born in Ybbsitz in Lower Austria.
Since 1977 the castle was bought by Südtiroler Burgeninstitut ("South Tyrolean Institute for the maintenance of the castles"). Today is one of the most interesting medieval castles of the autonomous province of Bolzano. In all there are 64 rooms, about 24 of which are made entirely of wood. There are frescoes in the chapel of the school of Michael Pacher. Also interesting are the armory, the library, the room of the principles (the Fürstenzimmer) and the courtroom. In the basement there is a prison. The castle can be visited on specific days and up from time to time exhibitions and concerts.
