Here's my Friday Surprise puzzle, where I have a bit of fun, playing with different effects and techniques!! The kaleidos in this puzzle are kaleidos made from images that I made myself. I made gradients, which I ran through a heap of filters, and then kaleido'd. And I placed them on a spacey kind of background, and then framed it.

I use a variety of programs to make my puzzles, and this one took around 2 hours to make.

It gives me immense pleasure making them, and I hope it gives you pleasure solving them. :-)

That is an excellent deduction, Don! I'm not sure if it's due to a transparency setting, because I'm just finding my way with the software (paint.net). But I will be checking that out! Thank you. :)

Does your software have a "transparency" setting? I can't really tell, because the adjacent colors affect the perception, but I know that Photoshop, when you do layering, allows you to set the transparency of each layer. If these were, say, 10-20% transparent, that would explain apparent color shifts when you place them over a background. The "glow" of the center one might be because it's over the white and yellow background.

Thanks Don!! I like using a patterned background too. Not so much pattern that it becomes the main event. But just enough that it's interesting in itself, and provides a road map, as you say. And I can't explain the way the kaleidos glow in this one. Nor the fact that they seemed to change colour once mounted on this background. They were quite pink and purple when I made them. But seemed to become much more muted and glowy when placed on this background. It must be something to do with the dynamics of the way colours bounce off each other I suppose. Anyway, despite not looking the way I expected it too, based in the individual componentry, I'm, glad you enjoyed it! And hope that you are keeping well. :)))

Another very nice array. In these larger sizes, the variable background color helps, since it's the only clue on some pieces. The big one has a nice glow, like sculptured, tinted and etched glass with a strong light source behind it - not unlike an antique lamp.

These variously sized kaleidos sprinkled around the surface make quite good puzzles!

Thanks Gail! I have to confess that the background isn't my work. I haven't yet figured out how to make those kinds of designs. But I will eventually!! I'm really happy to hear that you enjoyed it too. :)))

I'm very impressed that this is all your artwork, Kirsten. I wouldn't know where to start making my own images for kaleidos. Not that I would have time to do that either!
