Here's the story behind this question. The original question was even harder. It read -

meridian
parable
aviator
violet
schedule

Which does not belong and why not ?

As you can see, these 5 words are essentially disparate and make the question abominably harder. One might say that violet does not belong because it is the only word that can be considered a colour. While this is true on a macro (large scale), the answer, especially to a higher level question like this is on a micro level - one that must satisfy the finest criteria.

The vowels are assigned a value equivalent to their place in the alphabet. "A" is the first vowel so is assigned the number 1. "E" is the second vowel so is assigned the number 2 etc, etc. Therefore one can see that "parable" does not belong as its vowel assignment value totals 4 while the rest of the vowel assignment values total 9 for each word.

I was not able to answer the question correctly. When I found out the answer, I thought "Are you kidding me ?!?" The lesson I learned here was paranoia. I can't even look at a question like -

Barb's (Tigress) winning answer was - This is complicated but here goes. Assign each vowel a number ... A = 1, E = 2, I = 3, O =4 and U = 5. Add the totals of the vowels in each word and they add up to 8. Except for Camellia which adds up to 7. So that means Camellia is the odd one out. By the way tulip adds up to 8 as well.

BIG HINT #2 ~ TULIP IS NOT THE ANSWER SO LET'S REMOVE IT FROM THIS QUESTION. THE FLOWERS ARE NOW CAMELLIA, DAFFODIL, FREESIA AND MIMOSA.

BIG HINT ~ THE ANSWER ALSO HAS TO DO WITH NUMBERS NO LARGER THAN 10. YOU MUST HAVE THE CORRECT FLOWER AND THE REASON WHY IT DOESN'T BELONG. I CANNOT TELL PEOPLE THAT THEY ARE HALF CORRECT.

Thanks very much Joanne ~ I agree with you re physical therapy. It really helped with my torn rotator cuff. I made this puzzle just before my surgery, lol.

You sure know how to get back in the swing!!! LOL This was wonderfully fun and complex making it a pleasure and a challenge.

I'm so sorry about the complications with your hand. A good physical therapist can do wonders. I've had therapy for dislocated shoulder, collapsed ankle tendon, and scoliosis. It's amazing how much I've been helped. I wish the best for you.
