You are right, Robbie. According to the caption on my source photo it is a Hawksbill Turtle & a Grey Angelfish off Cozumel, Mex. Sorry I didn't identify them. Your info input is MUCH appreciated & inspired me to do a tiny bit of research myself. They do nest elsewhere, even in my state of Florida (although at the other end of the state from me!) and in many beaches of the Tropics.
Loved your story, too, Robbie. I want to add, for the benefit of others, that they are highly endangered, mostly from the fishing industry & from illegal hunting. Their flesh is inedible because of the toxins of some of their food so they are, in essence, just wasted except for their shells. Folks, when you buy that lovely article made from that lovely 'Tortoise Shell' it most likely DID NOT come from a tortoise but from an illegally caught, HIGHLY ENDANGERED Hawksbill Sea Turtle. It is estimated that perhaps 99% does---their shell is that beautifully patterned amber colored shell so highly prized, not that of the tortoise. Thanks again, Plum' Sugar................

treker, thank you so much. I dearly wish everyone did..........

YW, Ank. Turtles are fun, aren't they? But only for a little while, like Fireflies. Enjoy them for awhile & then let them go. The one you watched might grow larger if it was free. But they live so long & grow so slowly we probably would never know! :-}.............

Hi AJ, I enjoyed this puzzle in several ways. First trying to identify the turtle which I believe could be a Hawksbill. Bermuda is one of the few places in the world where sea turtles are almost completely safe in their immature stage to feed and grow. The Green and Hawksbill turtles are the most prolific and will remain here for up to 15 years before leaving and maturing in an adult area at sea and nesting areas from 600 to 1500 miles away! Practically all sea turtles in Bermuda are hatched elsewhere in the world and are quite small. We do see some adult turtles. In front of our dock we can count a dozen or more feeding on the turtle grass mostly in summer months with a few sightings during winter.
I really enjoyed solving the puzzle and the colours are great. Thanks and hope you are well.

Hi Ann, thanks for your answer. I love the way you see it. The turtle I took care for is not so big. About like a man hand. He wil not grow much anymore.
It's a sweet little animal.

Thanks again Ann. (I agree with your animal philosophy!)

Hah, treker. You beat me by 19 minutes!! You think YOU never got going!! and it was even MY puzzle!!............

Thanks, Elfie. Always a pleasure to hear from you. So glad you like them. They are pretty..............

Ank, I read about your 'turtle sitting' on another puzzle. Just how big is that thing? And I agree. A turtle is meant to have a big open expanse of water or land. I would not buy turtles for my kids but, living here in Florida, they often caught them in creeks or the lake. They were allowed to keep them a few days (this way they could observe them more closely) but then they would have to put them back in the same spot they caught them . It was the same with lizards & frogs or toads. And it was strictly forbidden to bring ANYTHING home from the beach except open shells, etc. Even driftwood was off-limits if it was found in the water because of all the tiny creatures living in it. I insisted on this with any visiting relative's kids, too. For example, while still at the beach I would show them how to put that 'empty' shell into their bucket with some of the sea water in it, put it down, & watch for a few moments. They were always totally surprised to see that little hermit crab come poking out! Then I explained to them how they couldn't keep the water right for them--- & what would they feed it? And how bad they would feel when it died---and especially when the whole mess began to stink! I have even been known to do this with total strangers on the beach. You would be surprised how many parents were not even aware.
I posted a puzzle a long while back of a young boy lying in the grass watching a turtle or tortoise. I always hoped it was not a captive one. Thanks again, Ank, for your input............

He has beautiful colors. I just have taking care for a turtle for 6 weeks. He is lovely. He is from neighbours daughter. He has a large aquarium.

But if you ask me, prohibit, A turtle is not a toy for childre. They don't belong in a aquarium.

Elfie

Simply love them Ann, thanks so very much!!

Thanx Ann, Great puzzle! With the mix of colors I just never "got going!"
