Hi loveydear - these Bees are about the same size as Bumblebees - 1/2" to 1" long. They are called Carpenter Bees because they make their hives in old timber or logs & actually chew the timber to the correct shape. They are not likely to sting - males don't, females only if stirred up!! Nice to know that!! I'd say the ant is probably a very small one, which gives the illusion that the Bee is bigger than it initially seems...Rob.
