I learned to fly helicopters in this little guy -- starting in Jan 1969 -- class 69-10, "The White Hats." I don't remember them at Rucker, but that doesn't mean anything. I flew the OH-13 and Huey at Rucker.

I had no idea the Th-55 was so crash worthy. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed making the puzzle.

Yes, we may have called them Mattel Messerschmitts but they were made by Timex as they took a lickin' and kept on tickin'. As I recall that in the 1970s Fort Rucker had about 200 accident with TH-55s, to include two midair collisions but not one fatality.
We had one student had an airspeed indicator failure and he flew his aircraft into the ground at around a hundred knots and plowed farmers field. It dug in and disintegrated. Another aircraft saw the aircraft travel over a hundred yards across the field and they landed only to find a body still sitting in his seat totally covered with mud. They rolled the body over and not only was he alive, he did not require anything more than a few band-aids.
I saw him at the hospital after they cleaned him up. Have you ever seen a black guy with buses all over his body? He looked camouflaged with purple patches.
