Why are you reporting this puzzle?

The Flowering crabapple trees were in full bloom and had a lovely soft scent.

I watched the Schipperke judging Saturday and really liked the male Skip that won the Best of Breed. I thought he was very nice. At lunch time I happened to sitting at the same table as the Skip and his owner. Mary Ann, the owner, told me that that day was Oliver's 6 month birthday, so it was his first-ever show, and hers, also!

I asked if she was going to show Oliver in the Group, and she said no, because she was afraid of the level of competition from pro handlers in the Group. I somewhat pushed her take her boy in, as it would be good exposure for her and her boy.

When the Group was called into the ring, there she was with Oliver! I was tickled that she'd taken the plunge! After the judge went over all 14 dogs in the Group, she then made a cut, or pulled out the 6 dogs she was considering for final placements, and lo and behold, Mary Ann and Oliver were the final ones pulled into that set of contenders!!

When the dust settled, the judge put Oliver up for the 4th top award in the Group!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a remarkable way to start Oliver's show career!!! I can't tell you how happy I am that I bullied her a bit to go ahead and take the plunge!!!

I just heard from Mary Ann about how it went for her in the Group on Sunday. Sorry to report that Oliver didn't get another placement, but she learned more handling tips and tricks and is gung ho for his next shows. I'm VERY happy for her!!

It's fun to meddle sometimes, especially when it helps someone's dream come true! :o)

I'm nearly as happy as she is. Glad I had a chance to giver her a push, Sherry!

Good job, Ellen!! I know if I was in Mary Ann's shoes and an experienced handler (and Winner, I might add) encouraged me to go for it, I wouldn't think twice about doing it. I'm sure she will thank you for your "meddling" for a long time! Sherry

PutterDutt

It's so nice that she LISTENED to me and scraped up the courage to go for it, Jerry!

Beautiful story, Ellen. I am really glad you shared that with us. This helps our friendly group bond even closer.

PutterDutt

To tell the truth, I'm still smiling over how it went for Mary Ann and Oliver!

PutterDutt

Could be, jyl. I've always felt that if I go home from a show and haven't made a new friend or two and helped someone, then I wasted my time. There's more to a dog show than just winning....

jyl

I would bet that Mary Ann will tell your story, too. However, she will probably refer to you as an encourager, not a meddler. Well done.
Hmmm, I wonder if getting Oliver into the group was your real reason for going to that show, even though you didn't know it.

PutterDutt

Bless your heart, Dave!

I understand Ellen -- I do it every opportunity I get (someone did it for me early in life, and I never forgot it !!) ; I often took employees of mine and pushed them into factory training experiences to improve their skills and value, many times only to see them leave me and take on a new, higher paying job elsewhere !! For me -- satisfaction !

Forgot to answer your question, Robin. Np. the crab is at the show grounds.

Plumpossum, hopefully some day Mary Ann will bolster up someone else's confidence and tell them the true story! A dog HAS to be 6 months old to enter a show, but she has taken Oliver to training classes, but that's not the same as the stress and excitement of being in an official ring with a baby dog!

Thanks, Dave.

PutterDutt

Not everybody would understand the satisfaction I felt at helping to push Mary Ann a bit, and having it pay off so handsomely for her, so I'm glad you folks understand!

Ahhh Ellen, the "meddler" !!! Nice job . . . . and good for Mary Ann and her pooch.
;-))))

Plumpossum

Mary Ann will probably remember you with pleasure for the rest of her life! Cheers to you for egging her on!

Surreal_Heidi

What a GREAT story, Ellen! On many levels.

Jumble

You should anyways listen to the voice of experience, I am so pleased for you she did.

PutterDutt

My thoughts, too, Robin! It took all the (slight) sting out of my Plum not winning that weekend!!

mackabroin

lol ellen....I love the word "meddle".....and what a great story....meddle included.....sometimes if you are shy you just need a bit of confidence and a friend to egg you on...good for you
