LF3: Glacier Tracks

The falls is a little less than a half-mile in. When we could hear it, we saw a broad track going off to the left, and followed it. Soon we were no longer walking on forest floor, but on bedrock, where the thin soils had been worn away. A little farther,and the ridge turned into this promontory projecting into the river.
The Adirondacks were heavily glaciated, and here that history is openly exposed. This turned out to be a microcosm of the entire area, with the bedrock close to the surface, and life struggling to thrive with meager resources.
