The Illinois Railway Museum is the largest railroad museum in the United States and is located in Union, IL, 55 miles (89 km) northwest of Chicago. There are over 450 pieces of prototype equipment in its collection, as well as numerous displays. Visitors may ride on some of the museum's electric, steam and diesel powered trains. This museum was founded in 1953.

I drive through Union at least once a week, laura. I was at the railway museum about 15 years ago. The town also has a Mchenry county museum, which I never went to. Though I say I will.

I grew up very near the Empire State Building and never went up it until I was a adult.

Thanks, grandmalucy and gnt. I would love to visit this museum. The only problem is it's quite a distance from me. But not from morris and lyndee. Maybe they have already been there.
