Yes, very thoughtful. In the olden days when people bought tropical fish for their aquariums, they had to bring their own bags and since there was no plastic many years ago, they used paper bags and the water would eventually leak through the bags. But even then, the water was free (a courtesy provided by the merchant).
Actually no. I was thinking of the fish sold in pet stores that haven't been hit over the head. When one buys a fish in a pet store, they give you a free plastic baggie and free water to go with the fish. Then when one gets home with his fish, the baggie can be reused to put a sandwich in, and the water can be put in a glass to drink when one gets thirsty.
Oh yes....like at the fairground, where you throw the ball into the bowl and hit the fish on the head.......then they give you a different one in a plastic baggy.....so the one in the bowl keeps getting hit on the head!.......No, I hadn't thought of that.........
After I wrote my comment, I also Googled it, and there were sites that sold them, but also lots of sites that told you how to make them, which I never thought of doing! That would be cool, picking just what you wanted to put in them! Unfortunately, I'm not much good at crafts...!

Pat, that's EXACTLY what I thought when I made this. I was going to first call it a party popper but I figured most people wouldn't know what it is. And then I was going to call this "Snap, Crackle, and Pop" in deference, but then at the last moment, I just said "Snap." We always had them as kids at any kind of party and they were so cool. I wonder why they went out of vogue. I did look them up on Google and most of what is called a party popper isn't what I remembered these being like.
Mr. Bugosi! I can't believe it! I just googled up "Christmas crackers" and you're right...sort of. But they're not nearly as nice as the old time ones. They've become 'industrialized."
I think it's both a fish and a popper/cracker--the paper and cardboard tube with 2 ends that you pull apart at a celebration--it opens with a cracking sound, and contains little trinkets and crinkle-cut confetti streamers!
This laughing fish is hilarious - he's on the diagonal with fins out to the sides, bright blues eyes and a big yellow smiling mouth. Perhaps it's a snapper - hence the title!!!
