Oh snooker, I didn't see this until just now. Thank you for reminding me on my puzzle. No, I don't think that this is a baby mourning dove. The beak is too short and the coloring a little off. Let me check and get back to you on this. Cute little fella!
Snooker, i think it is more the way the bird is sitting and the black dots that have us "thinking" night hawk. Thanks for the additional info. Mourning dove, it is.
A night hawk has a white patch under the chin in all the photos that came up when I googled it. When I googled mourning dove baby there was a photo of a bird that looked very similar in pattern and bill shape to this one.

My first thought was a nighthawk, but you all are probably right about a mourning dove. Not sure about a baby ANY kind of bird this kind of year, though............
lj was talking about mourning doves this AM so I told her I was posting this one. My brother thought it might be a dove but wasn't sure. Any idea what the other one is?
