Dondi-My sister went to college in Potsdam....:) What a beautiful place you grew up in....cold, very cold...but beautiful! We live about 40 minutes west of Albany, in Cobleskill. It's about halfway between Albany and Cooperstown. And you are from Cambridge, MA? Boston is our favorite city!
WOW! I've never heard of this place before! This is so very cool, but probably meant for the famous and rich only! I would imagine that it is very costly to live like this! How much fun it would be though! It looks as if the little island that has the church on it would sink if too many people showed up for church on Sunday though! You would think they would have thought about building a church that size on a much bigger island! Hhhmmm! Maybe it just looks smaller in the picture than it really is! Anyways, it's a wonderful pic! Thank you so much for posting it, as it was lots of fun...Monica
It's a beautiful area. In the early days, the islands were the playground of the rich, and there are some very nice places - and beautiful old boats - in the area.
We were there in October (2012), and the boat's captain pointed out a small footbridge between two of the islands. The US/Canadian border runs between those two islands and is noted as the "shortest international bridge in the world. I didn't get a picture, but here is one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Zavikon_Island%28s%29_L.jpg
Where are you, punkinhead? I grew up in Potsdam, NY. It was a bit too far for a Sunday afternoon ride, although we went to Upper Canada Village, Ottawa (when the tulips were in bloom), and Kingston for Chinese food.
I've forgotten about this place until just now, Gracie!! A group of us aussies rented a houseboat and we spent a long weekend around this area. I must go and pull out all my photos and go through them. Thanks so much for posting this....actually, where abouts are we in Ontario?
