11/10/12 last of the garden tomatoes

I love sliced tomato on melted cheese! They just keep comin'!

Chrissie-You need to fashion little umbrellas for your tomato plants-or fancy hats to keep the direct sun off of them! I can see it now....Chrissie designs tomato hats! :)

They kept very well, Suzy. I didn't know about the newspaper 'trick' either. But then again ours don't freeze on the vine. There's more danger of sunburn :-)

I just picked the last of my tomatoes too. I won't buy the ones in the store so that means no more fresh tomatoes until next year.

Now we start the long wait until next summer and the joys of the first BLT. Thank's pumpkin.

Hope they taste good to you snooker....they sure do to us! Wrapping green tomatoes in newspaper is a great way to save tomatoes that will otherwise freeze on the vine, Patti. We are usually able to "extend" the season by a month using the newspapers...this year was a banner year....almost 6 extra weeks!!!

We now have two left, Morris. The one we had tonight was still quite tasty. Two to go! This is about the latest in the season we have had garden tomatoes....so GOOD!

Just finished dinner....BLT's (so very, very good) and homemade turkey soup (from a turkey breast we had last week). A fine meal, chickiel! :)

We just finished the last of our garden tomatoes today as "bacon and tomatoe sandwitches, toasted. they were delicious!

These are the last 3 tomatoes of the season. We picked them in the beginning of October, wrapped them in newspaper....and still have home grown tomatoes!
