These were in bloom all over Virginia the 1st two weeks of June. Does anyone know what they may be? I'd like to see if they would be hardy in my zone. Thanks for any possible help

Jenny, Mish & Amazonia ~ Thank you ALL so much for giving me even more hope that I can get these to survive here in eastern CT. I will be the envy of everyone around me if they do well!! (But I do wonder why I have NEVER seen them in these parts) Hopefully I will have a pic of them to jig next year!

Yeah, I know them as 'Red Hot Pokers' too. They're known by many names including 'Tritoma' + 'Knofflers'. I think they are quite hardy - as they grow well in just about any garden here in Britain! ; )

mish

They are Red Hot Pokers, native to Africa and grow pretty much anywhere. Great for attracting birds and butterflies to your garden. Scientific name; Kniphofia linearfolia.

OMGoodness!! I just LOVE this site!! I learn sooooo much here!! Aggie & painter, I am so thankful for your help with this! I am going to get my hands on one & see if I can get it to winter over here with some heavy mulching, etc... I am in zone 6A & they claim to be hardy from zone 7-10, but I gotta give it a shot!!
