Thank you for the tip, jyl! He wakens me REALLY early because he gobbles up all of his dry in the morning with his wet. I'll begin cutting it in half and serving it twice per day. It would be nice to wake up to the alarm clock (the regular one -- without fur! :)

One more trick you can try. When you take the handful of dry food out of the container in the morning, give him only half of it and save the rest for a bedtime snack. He'll get just the same amount of food every day and by breaking it into four instead of three meals he won't get quite so hungry between evening meal and a breakfast snack.

Hilarious - thanks! :)

I know, Kat, it's hard to refuse our furry kids their pleasures but in the end their health will benefit (and so do we, since we don't want to see them sick). No, The Truff is an indoor only cat, at least that's what he is supposed to be. Especially in the Summer he is trying to take a run at it but mostly I catch on right away and with a stern 'you get back here !!!' he actually turns and goes back inside. If he does sneak out without us knowing, he is mostly just sitting under our bushes in front and catches every twig, grass etc. in his long coat that is around and then he gets mad at me for having to brush all that stuff out of him later ! He does get his exercise by running through the house like mad, up the spiral staircase etc. We all wish the Capt. good luck in his diet and just tell him, the more he loses, the more it is to play and the losing is getting easier. Belly-rubs to all your furries !

I would be pleased if he lost another 2 and got down to 15 lbs, Connie. I know that his Vet would like to see him even lower than that but I was told that the Captain shouldn't lose too much weight too quickly because that could make him ill. So, 4 more months at 1/2 lb per month should work. The Truff is really active (he's indoor/outdoor, isn't he?) and only since Capt. Jack began losing weight has he become more playful and active -- so, I know it's doing him good. He just can't have more than one handful of his favorite dry each day, in addition to his wet each morning and evening. I'm simply becoming accustomed to my furry alarm clock because he certainly knows what time he is supposed to have his breakfast every morning! :)

Glad you saw the humor in this, Kat ... poor little Capt. Jack, I am surprised that the Truff isn't rolling around like a ball of lard but he does get his moments of running through the house like his tail is on fire so that must be his exercise. So what is Capt. Jack's ideal weight, how much does he need to shed ?

Katbalou

I ROARED when I saw this, Connie! Captain Jack took one look at this picture and decided that I ought to leave the bag of dry out, too. Oh, right. The bag of dry is safely closed inside of a cupboard because I could paste a (plump) silhouette of the Captain over this calico cat and it would be only too accurate. Love this picture and puzzle. Thank you for the giggle and the thought, my friend. :)

Bag was too full to close. I fixed it. :)

Yes, GMAjANET but it's so obvious ... this way one only clues in after the cat all of a sudden is 'a little husky' ! ;o)))

1 IN the bag...1 OUTSIDE the bag...the 3rd one swatting at the happy cat tails wagging waiting for his turn! Sweet picture...great caption. Thanks for sharing.

My cats would knock the bag over. You know, it's easier that way.
