Why are you reporting this puzzle?

From Wikipedia:
Triggerfishes are about 40 species of often brightly colored fishes of the family Balistidae. Often marked by lines and spots, they inhabit tropical and subtropical oceans throughout the world, with the greatest species richness in the Indo-Pacific. Most are found in relatively shallow, coastal habitats, especially at coral reefs. While several species from this family are popular in the marine aquarium trade, they are often notoriously ill-tempered. They range in size from 9" to 20".

Thanks, Ardy, for that valuable info. I hadn't thought of it like that. Of course, corals are bright, so the fish would need to be bright to hide in amongst them, whereas I always think of camouflage being dull khaki colours!

SunnyBarb25

I think you are right Dave, thank you :)

warbler

Amazing looking creature of the sea. Nothing reclusive here.

I agree, funny looking fish....the orange spot is right over the black eye, Lyndee... :)
Thanks for commenting :)

He's a funny looker that's for sure. I'm trying to figure out if that orange dot on top his an eye.

SunnyBarb25

Thank you Nicky and Ardy....yes, being so colorful can be a warning sign for the predators but also could be a camouflage, especially in the very colorful coral reefs. Whatever the reason, they are beautiful to our eyes :)

ringleader

That's a real different fish, Barb. Thanks. I understand from some other postings this week that the bright colors could be a signal to predators they they don't taste good or are poisonous.

niccolino59

Wow, what a beauty. I wonder why they are such gorgeous colours?!
