This president was a widower and his daughter is considered to be his first lady but she had 12 children, four born during her father's presidency. so her time for "first lady" duties would have been limited. This president saw to his own entertaining details. He particularly took charge of the food and the form of protocol and ceremony.
Mamie Eisenhower collected missing china patterns from all past administrations to complete the China Room in 1957.
China used on this president's tables created a calmer place setting than the one which has quite a bright colored border to the plates. These are stately looking never-the-less.
