La Rambla is a street in central Barcelona, popular with tourists and locals alike. A tree-lined pedestrian mall, it stretches for 1.2 kilometres (0.75 mi) connecting Plaça de Catalunya in the center with the Christopher Columbus Monument at Port Vell. La Rambla can be crowded, especially during the height of the tourist season. Its popularity with tourists has affected the character of the street. Along the promenade's length are kiosks that sell newspapers and souvenirs, other kiosks selling flowers, street traders, performers, and pavement cafes and bars. Several notable sights are also located within the promenade, including a street mosaic by Joan Miró,

La Rambla was originally a sewage-filled stream-bed, usually dry but becoming an important drain for the heavy rainwater flowing from the hills during spring and autumn. Its origins as a watercourse are reflected in the paving design, which appears to ripple like water.

BOTTOM PHOTO: A "Marilyn Monroe" performer on a balcony waiting for her skirt to rise around her. Tourists would snap photos right and left! :))

LOL!!!

JiggyBelle

I do know what you meant re: childlike and childish. I was just WISHING it was the former NOT the latter!!! LOL
I do love the idea of your red tag, though. I wonder if I can find a 2549 red tags now........ :)

RandomWorship

Oh, the mention of Maggie. Sad face.

But (steeling myself) - I know what you mean about stuff. There's a method called "red tag". You place one on every item you're thinking about getting rid of. You agree on the duration you'll give that item before you reconsider getting rid of it, and write it on the tag. If you haven't used it, or thought about it, or touched it within the time frame - it's time for it to go. Of course it's SO much easier to say that, then do it!! LOL!

And I guess I meant annoying childish. But I'm with you on immaturity. Duncan and I do some crazy silly stuff sometimes. And then laugh ourselves silly - 'til our sides ache! I'm always saying that I don't really look younger then my years. I just act it! LOL!!

JiggyBelle

Kirsten, I have found that we always have enough belongings to overstuff whatever house we are in. So, I have to get a certain someone to sell some of his never used valuables. (Like that will ever happen!) I say that if you don't even remember it, it needs to go!! We know the UPS and Fedex drivers so well that they both shed tears when Maggie died. (I do still...)

As to childish - I think that retaining ones childlike viewpoint on life is what I wish it were, not childish! :))))

RandomWorship

Gosh - looking at what I wrote, I'm surprised you even knew what I was saying! So many typos! In my defence, your honour, I respectfully submit that it was 6:30 am, and I was on Jigidi for the quickest moment to respond to comments at my place, and then needed to hurl myself in the shower and throw myself out the door to get to my Sunday job. LOL

And now I have THAT out of my system - I have to say that I too am older than Duncan. But only by a few years. I don't reckon it matters at this age. I think the only time it matters is in your teens and twenties. When we are mature - and boys are still childish! LOL

I'm not sure what the "divesting of belongings" is about. It sounds like you're planning (or thinking about) on being travellers for the rest of your lives - so would sell the house etc. It sounds like a wonderful plan. And why not, while you have the physical health and fitness to travel! Go for it, my love!!!! (•‿•)

JiggyBelle

I do and I think it is a pipe dream. He has 3 years before we can do it. And, since I am a "cougar" 5 years older than he is, that is a lot longer than I would like to wait. But, divesting ones self of belongings that feel like the weight of the world on my shoulders, would be a great thing. So, maybe we can work on that part of it and pare down to the truly important! :))

RandomWorship

Hmmm. But then reality steps in. Like I'm just a lowly paid worker in the public sector, with a mortgage - and a retirement to fund!! But hopefully, one day ..........................

And I like your idea of moving to Austrlaia! For me, it's kind of like of Mohamed can't come to the mountain, then the mountain can come to him. Er her. Er Kirsten. You know what I mean!!! LOL

JiggyBelle

:(( do more than dream - - my new motto. BTW, Hubby said (just yesterday), "Why don't we move to Australia?" Hammy

RandomWorship

Done!!

In my dreams. :(

JiggyBelle

John found us a wonderful hotel (Hotel 1898) right on the Rambla. So, we could look at the Rambla at all hours. LET'S GO!

RandomWorship

Oh, I LOVE La Rambla! We stayed just off it, when we were there. Jan, Hester - I'm there! (•‿•)

JiggyBelle

Jim - you would not believe the sights. These were the tame ones! :))

JiggyBelle

Ardy, you would have LOVED it! Thank YOU!

Willy - don't bother solving, just look at and enjoy the puzzles. Sometimes that is fun, too! Thank you!

Hester - this doesn't even begin to cover it. I need a couple more weeks there. So, I see another trip coming. When are we going??? :))))

feistyfreddy

Wonderful street theatre, Jan! All life is there. This makes me want to go right out and buy a ticket to Barcelona! Coming? ;-))

willymon20

Thank you for this one Jan, it is very special. We were also there a few years ago, you really must see that in your live. I have so less time for solving puzzles, but I am happy that I was visiting you,
