Thanks Joan.

I think a Wapatui steer would be a better name for it. Giggle.

justjoan

I know it's redundant, but...Wow.

robryan

Thanks Rebecca:))
I guess not Toony!! Thanks :))
Thanks Dave :))
Oh - you great dis-believer Pat:))) Maybe you need a real-life encounter with one :))) You could ride past real fast on yer bike!!!

patsquire

So yes, they are real. And those horns are honeycombed and full of blood vessels which help the animal regulate its body heat. But they still LOOK fictional.

warbler

Heres good info on them if you want:

Just watch the swinging pocket watch. Your eyes are getting heavy . . . now your head is becoming heavy . . . sleep . . . sleep. I guess the hypnotist didn't have to mention the part about his head becoming heavy! ;o)

carthill

Hope he doesn't try to walk through a narrow doorway!

You'd hope so Sally - none of the photos showed them with lowered heads or the horns sawn off! Thanks.

SMor2Ditto

Wow... Those horns must be hollow... If not how ever do they hold their heads up... Thanks, Rob for the look see.... :) :)

robryan

Google it then Pat!!! There's plenty of biggies in Africa & they've also bred them in other countries!! True!

patsquire

I'm thinking the "African Watusi steer" is a figment of some photoshop-crazed jokester's imagination, like the old Jack-a-lope (a jackrabbit with antlers). Hmmmmmm?

robryan

Thanks Patti, anitas, pg, tex, Dave & Shirley!! Seeing IS believing :)))

shirley68

That's truly amazing, I would never have believed it, if I haden't seen it here, Thanks Rob.

warbler

Wow, I wonder if I'm really seeing this. No more st... for me.

texasstar7

This dude looks like he got trapped in a sci-fi movie and didn't get off set soon enough! What a funny looking thing. I've never seen one. Of course, I'm not around too many pastures these days unless I'm hunting Bluebonnets! This guy is a freak! Thanks, RR (I think)!

lyndee

Ha Ha Anitas........he can lay underneath his own shade!

photogent

I'm not even going there this time Rob.

anitas

My thoughts, exactly, robryan. Reading about them, it says the horns act as a radiator to cool them in the hot conditions.

PLG1958

WOW!!!

robryan

Thanks scorpio, lyndee, Kathy, Cobbscout(LOL!!), & Neverbored!! I'm just amazed that he can lift his head !!!

Cobbscout - you are a hoot!

WOW!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!

lyndee

I fail to see the purpose for these horns. They've got to get in the way.

scorpiostinger

I live in Texas. Whenever I see these Watusi, I always feel like the horns weigh more than the steer itself. :)
