The top shells are Bullmouth Helmet shells and used for cameo art as seen here.
The bottom shells are Gold Lipped Oysters and are the largest pearl oysters in the world. Together with the White lipped Oyster, they produce South Sea Pearls and are cultured in Australia and Tahiti. They also produce Mother of Pearl buttons.
Dad acquired these many years ago at shell shows.

Thanks again mates, I don't know much about the cutting other than now some artists use a Dremel diamond blade, I think many years ago they used knives which must have been so difficult to use.

Robbie, these are exquisite!! what do they use to cut the shell? the filigee work on the bottom right hand corner is so fine, you would think it woud break. Love them all, Thank you Robbie.
