Thanks, Impie. The catnip we have is so big and has large leaves. I am not fond of it.

It only works when the ground has been warmed recently - then the warmth rises into the pot and gets trapped there. Not enough heat for us to notice, but enough for the plants, for a brief cold spell. You also have to remember to put a rock or 3 on top so they don't blow away, and so pesky squirrels don't investigate!

Impie

Oh OK!...haven't thought of that, but I think it's a great idea.
I learned over the years that once the daffodils starting to brighten up the garden and are about 15/20 centrimetres high the wind/storm wants to spoil the fun!:( so I'll support them before they have reached that length, this way they'll stay upright and can still move slightly with the wind and I can enjoy my daffodils in the garden!

RebeccaB

Only 2 are open. There might be a few buds old enough to open if I brought them in, but I'll probably put empty pots over them instead. I do most every year at some point - sometimes 3 or 4 times!

Impie

Oh...I'm so sorry Rebecca. Aren't you daffodils large enough yet to cut and put them indoors in a vase? I do hope so...at least you could have some joy out of them before the snow kills them!
Stay warm!

RebeccaB

Goofie you are a role model - out doing quality control on your garden very early in the spring. We had nearly a week of summer weather - 78 F (25.5C), but by this time tomorrow we will have 6" (15 cm) of SNOW. Bye bye, daffodils!

Hi Marilyn, Goofie's catnip plants are called (latin I'd guess) Nepeta racemosa Lam. ...(in Dutch Blauw Kattenkruid☺) ...it's also known under the name of Eastern Cat-mint....
We started with 3 plants for our cat Happy, he loved it too. When Happy died in 2001, Goofie inherited his 3 plants but he now owns a lot more plants... it's more like a catnip field!!!☺☺

What kind of catnip does Goofie have? The kind I have for my kitties has larger leaves and grows much larger. A smaller variety would fit better in the garden.

☺☺☺

Impie

Yes cbmuller.....*burp*....oops, sorry :)))))

I have no idea Lynetteoz, but I'm certainly not going to use Goofie's catnip...I wouldn't dare :-)

Oh Tisket and Jimmy Bro, I hope both your mums will find you a catnip plant. It's heavenly!!!♥
In Dutch it's called "kattenkruid" and mum saw on Google it's also known as 'Nepeta' or Neppe...perhaps your mum can use this info while searching for a catnip plant!? :))
Good Luck!
Love Goofie xx

maegi

I agree with Tisket, don't know exactly if we can buy catnip plants here...

tisketsmum

I'm soooooo jealous Goofie.
I'm definitely gonna ask mum for a catnip plant :))
Love Tisket xx

Lynetteoz

I hear you can make catnip tea - but it may be a different variety from yours Goofie :-)

cbmuller

Yummy!

Dank je schutkleur, het is meer toeval dat zijn tongetje er ook op staat, ik was blij verrast toen ik het op de foto zag!☺☺

It's alright roseheather, he has several catnip plants to choose from....lucky boy : )

Oh yes catslave, he's just trying new leaves of this plant, the others are still small, but in a few weeks time he can enjoy his whole catnip field!☺♥☺

catslave

Make sure you leave enough to grow for the summer, Goofie! ☺♥☺

roseheather
