laurajane, to see sights like this you have to get away from the roads and onto the trails. And this is the "High Peaks" area, in the northeast corner of the park around Lake Placid. In the rest of the Adirondacks what we easterners call mountains are less steep and farther apart.
Dondi-You are a transported local! :) You have moved from one Cambridge to another! One can tell the locals by the way Greenwich is pronounced. A very close friend of my parents lives there. We tend to avoid the northway during the summer, due to the heavy traffic. I can't imagine living with that every day!
Ha! I was born in Cambridge, down Rte. 22, and used to spend parts of every summer there, helping on my grandparent's farm. Near towns like Argyle and Shushan. :-) Greenwich (pronounced Green-witch, not the British way, for those not from the area) and Lake George are very familiar. We used to have to deal with traffic in Lake George on the way to and from.
Thanks gnt. The Adirondacks are a 4 season spot of beauty. :) Chookies-Glad to give you a look at something new! Thanks, gladstone. Glad you liked it! Goingsilver...we are very lucky to live where we do. We can be in the Adirondack Mountains, the Catskill Mountains, and the Green Mountains of Vermont....all within a 90 minute drive. Can't get much better than that! Robbie-Where was your cabin, again? Was it near Lake George (or am I misremembering?). Happy Valentine's Day to you as well!
Yes I had a good time around there PKH, they were about 40 minutes from my cabin. This is a stunning picture, thanks. Hope you enjoyed your day, Happy Valentine.
