Why are you reporting this puzzle?

An invasive species in my area. Looks pretty from a distance, but it really takes over. There's a coalition nearby that is coming soon to start getting rid of it.

Thanks Suzy. The woman from the coalition said that it grow much like bamboo.

Thanks Nicky -- Yes, I'm starting to see that. It's trying to creep all along the river.

niccolino59

Dreadful stuff - once you got it you can't get rid of it!

pumpkinhead

This reminded me very much of bamboo. They are not related (as research showed), but bamboo can be very invasive as well.
Sure is a pretty green, though!

PLG1958

Thanks, everyone!

(But Creeping Charlie is so pretty in the fall, Laura! But I do know what you mean. It's about impossible to get rid of it.)

robryan

Shame they can't find a use for it Patti - it looks like it grows thick!! Thanks!!

Gladstone

It does look healthy.

laurajane

I wish someone would invent something that would get rid of Creeping Charlie for good!

PLG1958

By the way, this is not only in my area, but at the edge of my backyard. (Good thing I'm not in the UK!)

PLG1958

Interesting info, Oddio! (We crossed.)

PLG1958

Thank you everyone. (I had the same thought, Foxy!)

Els2-- I don't know if it has any use. Sorry.

oddio

I hadn't heard of this pest. Had to look it up. Here's a bit of what Wikipedia reports on it:

"In the United Kingdom, Japanese Knotweed has received a lot of attention in the press as a result of very restrictive lending policies by banks and other mortgage companies. Several lenders have refused mortgage applications on the basis of the plant being discovered in the garden or neighbouring garden."

:>)

Hope they get it before it spreads out. :o) Thx Patti.

Shian2

What a shame it's so invasive, rather a nice plant.

foxymoron

Knotweed? Not weed? A misleading name for it appears to be a weed :-)

warbler

Amazingly, its not a widely mentioned invasive here.

morris186

Sure looks like it would spread quickly.
Hopefully the coalition comes up with a good plan before it acts.

els2

Does it have a use? Like MJ or turmeric, a spice also widely used as medication?
