Yes, I remember the ban on wood roofs. I guess when you live in a fire prone area wooden roofs are not a great asset. I have cement tiles on my roof. Glad you and horse are OK.
Thanks for your comments, folks. Alas, my evacuation "plan" has consisted so far principally of crossing my fingers and hoping! I might have to reconsider! Actually, the horse is probably safer staying here than being evacuated - - her back yard area is pretty much devoid of anything especially combustible, except for the trees around the perimeter. Incidentally, I am glad I put a tile roof on my house a few years ago! (The original roof was wood shakes. Pretty stupid, huh? Wood roofs have since been banned in all new construction.) http://www.pe.com/local-news/riverside-county/riverside/riverside-headlines-index/20130228-jurupa-fire-acreage-at-150-to-175-acres-evac-center-set-up.ece for the latest info.
Oh my goodness, Varda, it looks SO terrible!! I would ask as Gail does: have you got an evacuation plan IF things should go wild?? I'm so awfully glad that you - and so many others - escaped this catastrophy!! Thanks so very much for the link!!
I just read the article and watched the brief video on there. The sound of the fire is horrific. Do you have an evacuation plan in place for times like this? I'm glad you're all right.

A brush fire, I think, Oddio. It was in the Santa Ana river bottom about a mile down the hill from me. Lots of houses between there and me, and if the wind had shifted it could have gotten really ugly.
