pg--it did remind me of the roadrunner, too. I could almost hear the "beep, beep!"
Thanks Potatomum for the post, I have never seen or heard of this bird before either, very interesting to know a bit about it and it's habits.
This was the last bird to work for me and she was not very good at dictation and her typing left a lot to be desired.
They are called secretary birds because of the feathers that stick out from her head. They are very goo snake catchers and thus the long legs so the can jump and move very quickly. They remind me of the South West Roadrunner but with better colors. Both are very good at killing and eating snakes.
Me too, Jayhawk! :)
I'll gladly tell the story - will have to figure out how to condense it a bit first!
I have seen a few secretaries that this bird reminds me of! Say, potatomum66--I just now read your comment under my Surpise Lilies photo. Go back there and tell me about the incident with your grandmother when you have a chance!
Lauraj, it's actually fun to watch it. Here's a link to a video -
I have never seen this bird before. Nice!
Right on, snooker. Definitely found in Africa - sub-Sarahan. It is actually on the coat of arms of South Africa and of the Sudan. I don't know about its keyboard skills, pumpkin - but it's a good snake hunter, if that helps!
Good one, snooker!
Couldn't be any worse than what we have to deal with on here with PG.
Wonder if she takes dictation and has good keyboard skills?
Found in Africa i think. Very stately.
I hadn't either until I saw them at the San Diego Zoo!
I have never heard of a Secretary bird. This is a beautiful creature. Thanks for posting. I see new things every day on Jigidi!
