The angels told the shepherds - a rough, dirty, smelly population.
Why are you reporting this puzzle?
Oh my goodness, puzzle friends! I am so sorry for being confusing!
I was referring to the Christmas story in the Bible where it says that an angel appeared to the shepherds, keeping watch over their flocks in the fields at night. "...I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people..."
My great-grandfather was a "mule skinner" on a team of freight wagons. My grandfather was a cowboy.
It's always been a cause of great wonder for me that the angels would announce this Holy Event to hired men such as they, rather to great and powerful people of influence.
I'm not in the least upset at either the shepherd or the sheep. Quite the contrary.
I'm just always absolutely taken aback at this whole turn of events in the story.
Merry Christmas - and peace.
