Weezy's Restaurant, originally the Tourist Haven, was opened in 1937. The owner's wife, Louise Cassens, managed it. Today, it's a well-known landmark on Route 66 in Hamel, IL.

Nice. How's the food? (Oh, I just read the comments below and saw that you've not eaten there yet.) I agree with the others that we should meet there!!! :-)

Sounds like a plan, Laura! I liked the Ariston.

robryan

Ah! That makes perfect sense Laura!! Thanks.

laurajane

Robyn, Weezy is a nickname for Louise. Louise was the manager of the restaurant and her husband owned it.

robryan

It's an unusual name Laura!! Do you know why it's Weezy's??

laurajane

Yes, pumpkin, lets eat there I will reserve a gigantic table for us all. Yes, they have lots to drink besides Bud...thankfully.
Lyndee and Morris, stop in Litchfield on the way down. We'll do the Ariston.
Mimi, we will meet when you come to Illinois.
Oh Warbler, why do you live in VA?

warbler

How fun would that be!

Laura, I do go to Illinois about twice a year. My daughter lives in Carbondale. I'd love to get together with you IL ladies sometimes!

morris186

The next meeting place?
I really hope so, pumpkin!!!

lyndee

Love those Ma and Pa restaurants. They're the best!

pumpkinhead

Let's all go there for a bite to eat. Maybe they have something to drink besides Bud. :)

laurajane

Mimi, come to Illinois and we Illlnois Jigidi folks will show you a good time! :o)

mipahollo1

Attractive little place. It looks like it would have good food. :))

laurajane

I heard it was excellent! Never ate there before, though.
