Great puzzle, Cheryl and lots of fun to do. And yes, Plumpossum... they sure do. I'm from and in So. Cal too. My brother went to college in Orange County, Cheryl... Fullerton. Until he dropped out after 5 weeks, haha.
Yes, folks have been stealing copper wire here also, as well as other items such as all the copper memorial stars and such on veterans' graves last year. In one case there was video coverage of two men loading a huge truck with spools of copper wire at a warehouse loading dock. People saw them but didn't think it was a theft because it was so bold right out in the open. I understand this because when I lived in Orange County, CA I watched a couple of guys steal a stereo and I thought it was someone that he had hired to take it for repairs. Not. Well, at least we don't have to worry about anyone stealing manhole covers around here - don't have any out here in the boonies.
In NYC, they are having problems because people are stealing the plain, old, undistinguished manhole covers to resell, since the price of the material makes it a very lucrative undertaking. I can imagine how quickly works of art like these would disappear here...! This is a wonderful series! Thanks, Cheryl.
Really glad you enjoyed it. I stumbled on Japanese, and other, manhole covers and got very curious and started looking for more. Had fun and glad you did also. Will be posting more. Thanks.
