Day 2 Chester le Street

imagine that. if most of them had a wife and two kids that's 800 people with no money for a month. I guess the grandparents would have stretched their dinners out to help feed them but what about the rent? No Housing Benefit in those days and soon to be none for the under 25's in Britain

basically the result was that they lost a month's dole money as they hadn't been available for work, same as it would be now

my grandmother came from this town, this was the first stop for the Jarrow Marchers only 21 days to go of my puzzles although the march took 28 days they must have had rest days
