What would some of our favorite Disney fairytales and Western stories look like if they had been conceived in Eastern Asia? Korean illustrator Na Young Wu has an idea – her illustrations feature Disney characters new and old reinterpreted through the prism of modern Korean cartoon illustration, also known as “manhwa.”
Wu, who also goes by “Obsidian,” is quite a prolific illustrator, so be sure to check out her blog and Twitter if you like what you see!

Thanks for the recommendation, Maggie. I have added La belle et la bête (1946) to my Netflix queue!

Hi, Maggie. I think the tiger makes a perfect beast as well. I had heard the Garbo quote in re Marais, but have never seen the movie. So now you have convinced me, and probably others, to see La Belle et La Bete!

Pat - this is a delight and I will go visit Wu's blog. I love the idea of a tiger as the Beast and it reminds me very much of the Jean Cocteau film "La belle et la bete" with Garbo and Jean Marais and the anecdote that, after watching the film for the first time, Garbo cried out "Give me back my Beast" because Marais as the Prince is way way too pretty.

Now I have also convinced myself I need to see the film again! Thank you

Maggie
