Whatever this plant is, I get a bad case of contact dermatitis on any part of me that comes in contact with it. A painful red bumpy burn type rash. :-( I just love those Chinese Lanterns Tex~another wonderful childhood memory for me. :-)

And you could garnish it with those little Chinese Lanterns which are so pretty! Hope you find out what it is. It's pretty.

Hello chickie ~ Back in 'the day', I used to eat JArts all sorts of ways, but always bought them at the local organic farm. The centers are different for sure on mine compared to the pics. I will check my leaves in the morning.
I am curious if my plant proves to be one, does it belong in a perennial garden? Or should I dig it up & eat it? lol
Thank you both for the info.

I remember them having lighter centers than yours kathy. My dad used to harvest the roots and we cooked them like mashed potatoes.

I actually just got some JE roots on Saturday, and the plant they came from looks like yours, the center was dark and often mistaken for B E Susan, and grow to 6' or more as well...maybe it is in the same family. Let me know if you ID it! Would love to know! The root is edible as well!

kathygoog

I was hoping you had ID'd it, but after close inspection of JA page, the main difference is the centers are not right. :-( The plant is at least 6' tall, centers are cream color at first & darken as the days go on & there are a dozen or more flowers/buds on each stem. Thanks for your help & comment
